Portugal’s high value-added profession list and NHR Application

Below is the list of Portugal’s so-called high-value-added professions. If you are fall in any of these professions you can apply for the Non-Habitual Resident (NHR) program in Portugal. This will give you a flat tax rate advantage of 20% per year of your total income for the first 10 years. However, to be eligible for the Non-Habitual Tax Resident it’s mandatory to complete an application with the Portuguese tax department with multiple stages. Who can Apply for Non Habitual Resident?

Anyone who meet the following 3 criteria:

  • You are not a resident in portugal for last 5 years and you want to move in Portugal now.
  • You must stay in portugal for 183 days after issuing your resident parmit or you have your primary home here in portugal.
  • You must made the application before 31st march of the following year you become resident. (For example if you become a resident in May you will have time for application until 31 march of next year)
