Visa Application Requirements

Own Income/Passive Income visa is designed for all the foreign nationals of countries situated outside EU state members that desire to live in Portugal and have a steady flow of income or a pension but has no limit of age.

Visa Duration and Renewal

With the approval of the Passive Income Visa application, You are issued a Portuguese residency card which is valid for two years. To continue your residential status, You need to renew your resident card at the end of the second year. During the renewal, You will get a three-year valid residency card. However, Each applicant is required to stay for six (06) consecutive months or eight (08) non-consecutive months in Portugal to keep the residency valid.

Visa Process

Stage One

Step 1

Step 4

If the application is approved, the Consulate of Portugal will issue the Visa that will be affixed to your Passport, allowing you to travel to Portugal.

Step 5

Please be advised that the Visa is a temporary document, valid for 4 months from its issuance. It is a kind of “pre-approval” of the residence application, but its final approval is conditioned on the subsequent issuance of the Residence Permit by the Immigration Office (SEF) in Portugal.

Stage Two

Step 1

Once the Visa is approved by the Consulate, you will receive a schedule to go to the Immigration Office appointment in Portugal, to submit the necessary documentation and personal interview (Fingerprints and take a photo for the residence card)

Step 2

The Immigration Office will analyze the documentation, once approved you will receive your resident card.
